I darted through the hall and down the corridor to the guest wing before anyone (Vicki) could notice I entered. Heading upstairs, I zipped toward Kevin's room. I wanted to give Lili the news about Xi first, but I needed help. Kevin had been working closely with Lili this week. He admired her and wanted her to succeed. He was already suspicious of the goings-on. And even though Master Xi had thrown shade at Kevin, I still trusted him.

I just wish he trusted me. It had to be the reason why he wouldn't tell what he really thought was happening at Casa Vicki.

I knocked on his door and announced myself. "I was in Florida," I said once inside and safe from prying ears. "We found Master Xi. But I have bad news."

Kevin nodded and motioned for me to sit down. "Vicki was also in Florida. Collecting the Lees with the others. They gave a brunch."

"I heard." I sat on the loveseat pushed against the end of his bed. "Before I tell you the bad news, I need you to be honest with me. I know you don't want to misrepresent anybody or anything, but I need to know what you think about this situation."

"Situation?"

"The Vicki situation, namely. You can't tell me to quit my job without giving me a good reason why. I need more than hints."

Kevin sighed and perched on the loveseat next to me. "Vicki cares more about her position than anything else. Her ego and ambition are driving her to make decisions that are dangerous for you."

"Sort of always been the case. But I've had some good therapists—"

“There's more. Your mother is making powerful friends."

"The Lees?"

"I told you they are far beyond her league. You know the expectations of producers from working in this business. I found out Vorling is gambling all he has to make Unlucky 18 a box office success." Kevin dropped his voice. "And I'm quite literal in my meaning. I did not want to say anything, because I don't know this for sure, but I believe Vorling owes the Lees money."

"I heard he has a problem with gambling. Do you mean the Lees covered his losses?"

"I learned they own casinos in Macau."

"They're not just crazy rich." I closed my eyes. "Vicki wouldn't know the protocol for mega-rich. You're afraid she might offend them."

"Of course, she will offend them," he said bitterly. "And these are people you should never offend."

"I thought this was Lili's movie. Did the Lees find the script?"

"No, it is Lili's project. Somehow, she connected with the Lees and they acquired Vorling for her. I don't know Zhao's reputation, but I have a feeling he learned of Lili's script and he convinced the Lees to finance the production for her."

"That makes sense. He's listed as the associate producer and the Lees are co-producers." I let out a breath. "And I think he's sweet on Lili."

"Too bad for Lili."

"Too bad for Zhao, because I don't think she's interested. She's still hung up on Jeff Johnson.
